The JAMB Subject Combination for Civil Engineering 2026/2027 is English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Some universities may accept Further Mathematics in place of Mathematics, or an additional science/technical subject like Biology, Agricultural Science, or Technical Drawing as the fifth subject for O-level requirements

A civil engineer is a person who conceive, design, build, supervise, operate, construct and maintain infrastructure projects and systems in society. These structures include roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, and systems for water supply and sewage treatment.

JAMB Subject Combination for Civil Engineering 2026/2027

To be eligible for admission into Civil Engineering through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), candidates must select the following subjects:

Use of English (compulsory for all candidates)
Mathematics
Physics
Chemistry

Note: This combination is standard across Nigerian universities offering Civil Engineering programs.

O’Level Requirements for Civil Engineering

Candidates must possess five (5) credit passes in the following subjects at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent. These credits should be obtained in not more than two sittings.

English Language
Mathematics
Physics
Chemistry
One additional science or technical subject, such as Biology, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Geography, or Economics.

Direct Entry Requirements for Civil Engineering

For candidates seeking admission through Direct Entry into the 200 level of a Civil Engineering program, the following qualifications are generally accepted:

Two (2) A-Level passes in Mathematics and Physics.
Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least an Upper Credit in relevant engineering fields.
Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) with credit passes in relevant subjects
